Introduction

This qualification has been developed for anyone who has responsibility for managing multiple licensed premises. The course is ideal for current or soon to be promoted BDMs and has been developed to ensure those working within this role are equipped with the key business skills to enable support to their licensees and provide advice on sound profitable business practices.

Consisting of five mandatory units, and at least three optional units, the qualification covers many generic business-related units which can be applied to different sectors. The delivery and assessment methodology applied contextualise these units to the industry.

Units of Study

Mandatory Group – Learners must complete each of these mandatory units

  • Communication in a Business Environment
  • Negotiation Skills and Persuasion in the Workplace
  • Profit, Loss and Budget Control
  • Profit and Loss in Multiple Retail Premises
  • Interviewing Skills in Multiple Retail Management

Optional Group 1- A minimum of 2 units from this group must be completed. These units must also meet a minimum of 4 credits.

  • Managing Capital Expenditure
  • Roles and Responsibilities of Multiple Retail Managers Under the Statutory Pubs Code Regulation 2016 and the Voluntary Working Within the Pub Industry Framework Code of Practice*
  • Understanding Motivation at Work
  • Managing Conflict
  • Leading and Managing Meetings
* Please note that this unit is mandatory for those taking the qualification whose role involves working with leased and tenanted premises

Optional Group 2- A minimum of 2 credits must be completed from this group.

  • Sales and Promotions and Merchandising
  • Understanding a Business Market
  • Business Planning

Assessment

This qualification is delivered using a blended learning approach which includes workshops, e-learning courses and self-study.

It is assessed in range ways including, case studies, reports, essays, exam papers and observations.
